Local Story Response

Blog #5 - Local Story Response

Coming out of high school, I saw a lot of my friends opt out of college and either enroll into the military or directly join the workforce. I understand that everyone has their own paths but getting a degree showcases personal and academic achievement. After reading an article by former governor Doug Ducey, I couldn't agree more with his stance on education and how it "opens the door to countless economic opportunities." With the Achieve60AZ program, Individuals can find themselves in front of many opportunities as well as the potential of receiving a higher income.

Another article I read from the publisher azcentral highlighted the difference of earning between Arizonians with and without degrees. Cited information from the U.S Census Bureau, Arizona citizens with a bachelor's degree as their highest indication of education make 67% more in median earning than those with a high school diploma, and those with a diploma make 21% more than those without one. This information further supports Ducey take on education.

Young adults such as I should be looking towards having a well-paying job in t
he future. Staying motivated in college can be troublesome with the amount of work handed out but, in the end, the time consumption and stress will be worth it. I am one of the very few in my family to go to college and it is an opportunity for me to achieve more than my parents. The most important thing to me in life is making my parents proud of who they raised. When I get my degree, it won't only be a personal achievement but a family trophy.
