Blog Entry #9 - Media Synthesize
After having multiple discussions about the power of media and as well as doing research for the third major essay, my perception of media hasn't changed but has been further supported by new and existing information. Although I am not super against it as I am a daily social media user, I believe that Media controls society in a multitude of ways.
Ever since the norm of social media people have been blinded of reality by imagination. It has shaped people's perception of others based on their behaviors and lifestyle. For example, when the average person sees a celebrity showing off how they live their lives, it influences others into trying to do the same ultimately leading to unrealistic expectations. I too have experienced this in the past in my early days of social media, but as I matured, I understood thinking this way is only hurting my well-being.
As stated previously, I am not 100% against social media. It is not entirely negative and can be used in a positive way. For one, it gives people a voice and with an abundant number of users whatever you are trying to promote is surely to be found by someone sharing the same interest. People and business use this as a marketing strategy to reach new or targeted audiences. It also builds a community for people to feel a sense of belonging and support. Though these are some notable positives, the negatives stand too tall for me and should be concerning not only for me but for society as a whole.
